We (Matt and Zach) both study music at Brigham Young University and, despite focusing our studies on other instruments, love playing the piano. What started off as spontaneous improvisation on the weekends quickly evolved into a unique and original take on four-hand piano. Since both of us really enjoy Christmas music, we decided to start arranging Christmas tunes into fun and energetic four-hand piano pieces.

We had so much fun performing our first piece “Angels We Have Heard on High”, that on a whim we asked a friend studying media arts to help us film a music video for this piece. We were inexperienced and the production was rushed, but we had a blast doing it.

Over the following year, we continued to learn more about music and video production. We wanted to do another number similar to “Angels We Have Heard on High,” but with more planning, investment, and time so that we could get a higher quality product. We decided that this would also be a good time to determine a name for our group.

Rising Action Piano was inspired by the piano action, the mechanism that transforms the pressing of a key into the striking of a string.
Our goal is to continue to arrange four-hand piano duets and to produce a full Christmas album in 2019.
